Public Relations Report: 2009-2010 Director: Tony Cameron. PP. PHF.
Public Relations is one of the newer kids on the Rotary management plan block. To date, in this Club, it does not appear to have gained widespread acceptance as a management tool.
Initially, I sought to expand the core of requisite skills within the Club by enlisting one person from each of the major avenues of service to undertake the public relations role for that particular avenue of service. The response from committees was less than overwhelming. Two of the four committees provided the requested personnel. These two members did an excellent job providing information related to their committee's activities to the media. This was not the case for the other two committees.
Most of our contact has been with the Iocal print media, a closer relationship with Peninsula News having been developed. Brief forays into the world of the electronic media have been successful. With my election as Public Relations Director for the ensuing Rotary year I intend to persevere with my plan and to have each of the four major avenues of service providing its own media releases through me.
Another aspect that requires attention is the public's recognition of Rotarians as they serve within the community. Surveys suggest that this is not well developed.
Tony Cameron.
Public Relations Director.
