Service Projects
PCYC
We took on the task of clearing a large area of bush at the PCYC facility. A mammoth effort by the "Ecological Vandals" resulted in a much larger area being used by the PCYC for outdoor activities. Three days of hard work was a wonderful effort.
BOWEL SCAN
PP Charlie Brock once again rose to the fore and distributed kits to the local Pharmacies and collected them later for testing.
ANZAC DAWN SERVICE
Pres.Don was his usual bright and cheerful self at the early hour of assembly for the distribution of candles to the people attending the service. The attendees are always most appreciative of our efforts. Breakfast was up to its usual high standard. Ex Servicemen of the club also took part in the march to the service.
PENINSULA GIRL GUIDES
A wonderful ongoing project; the Guides Hall was washed and repaired by a club working bee who also mowed and trimmed the surrounding grounds. Care of the grounds is ongoing and mowing and trimming is regularly done by Community Service committee members. Pres Don also compliments this service with his free plumbing activities.
MARY MACS
The Catholic Church parish has increased its commitment to those less fortunate in our community. The supply of meals has almost doubled in the last five months. This work is accomplished by a band of volunteers who are all of advanced age. The club provided a working party who scrubbed, polished and washed anything they could find in the dining area and kitchen. Some flooring was repaired and a large amount of crockery and cutlery was donated by Woy Woy Rotary. Mary Macs is another project that will require our ongoing presence.
STAPLE'S LOOKOUT
Through the kind cooperation of Gosford Council we have able to have the Lookout brought back too excellent condition. Walls have been repaired, Traffic barriers have been repaired and their number increased. The council has also allowed us to conduct a working day to wash the pavements, repaint the rotary emblem and to plant some native trees at the site. Many thanks to Gosford Council.
WOY WOY AGED CARE
Members of the Club provided the labour to run a BBQ at the Centres Fete Day and raised some hundreds of Dollars for the centre's coffers. Any requests for assistance are always answered by the club through the efforts of PP Charlie Brock and the club Rotarians.
LONG TAN
The commemorative Service was attended by club members and a wreath was laid by PP Charlie Brock.
AUSTRALIA DAY CELEBRATIONS
This year Rotarian Mark Ellis was the coordinator for the Peninsula Celebrations. With the help of club members seating and various other tasks were completed and Mark ensured that the entertainers, stallholders and the public were assured a wonderful days outing. Our Rotary tent was erected and the occasion was used by the club to sell tickets in our trailer raffle prior to the prize draw.
SALVATION ARMY
Two sites for the collection of funds for the Salvos were manned by Rotarian's on Woy Woy road. Their annual fundraiser is always a project worthy of our presence.
QUEENSLAND FLOOD APPEAL
During the selling of trailer raffle tickets at Deepwater Plaza club members also were responsible for the collection of relief supplies for the unfortunate victims of the flooding. Members also loaded a truck at the plaza for transportation of the goods to Queensland. A notable amount of money was also raised by the club through fine sessions and the generous personal donations of club members. These monies were donated via the district relief fund.
FUND RAISING
Numerous activities were organized by the club to raise funds for charity during the year. The people of the peninsula are always most generous to our club and I believe this is due to the respect they have for the Rotary organization.
TRAILER RAFFLE
Well done to the members who assisted PP Charlie in persuading local retailers to provide prizes for the raffle and to those who packed the trailer and to those who sat for hours and sold tickets.
OYSTER FESTIVAL
Another successful BBQ! Thanks to Jim Bohle for his kind donation to cover our site fee and for the kind use of his store facilities. A tidy sum was made on the day and the Rotary tent is always a good place for some fellowship.
MELBOURNE CUP TRIFECTA
Always a good cash cow! We had three winners and the generosity of the shoppers at the Plaza meant there was plenty of cash to donate to charities.
CAMPBELL'S GOLF DAY
We will be cooking breakfast again for the golfers this year as well as running our Betting Hole and a raffle. All the prizes are donated by Campbell's. This is a "No Cost" day for the club as all proceeds are kept by us to distribute. In addition if the Hole in One prize is not won the $500 is usually donated by Campbell's to Rotary.
FLORA FESTIVAL
Woy Woy Rotarians are the cream of parking attendant-; and a good ro11 up of our members resulted in a good "salary" package being paid for our services on the days.
PARKING STATION OPENING
We were invited by the management of Deepwater Plaza to hold a Chocolate wheel raffle at the official opening of the parking area. Two members also collected donations from the public for using the rides provided at the fun fair. The Plaza retailers provided prizes and all proceed of the raffle were donated to our club.
OPERA IN THE ARBORETUM
This is our major fundraiser. A very stressful project! Many thanks to John Greenway for taking it on again. Another wonderful success! Well done John and his team. Read all about it in John's report.
..........
During the year there has been a few projects that required immediate attention-usually involving some labour or money.
Thank you to the generous Rotarian's that instantly "put their hands in their pockets" or magically tum up to manually assist on these occasions.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS NIGHT
The club's Community Service Awards evening was combined with the Vocational Awards. Three ladies from Mary Mac's received Community Service Awards. They give so much of their time to help the needy; it is never hard to find worthy recipients from Mary Macs.
Our own PP Saph. Susan Baldock was also a recipient of an award. Her dedication to the program of ringing an elderly person each day is outstanding as is her entire Rotary History.
Well done to al1 our recipients. YOU know who you are.
Thanks to all members that assisted the club in our projects.
Rotarians: YOU MAKE MY HEART SING!
