THE OPERA IN THE ARBORETUM 2010. 20TH MARCH 2010 Once again this year, we were blessed with great weather for the opera and this resulted in an appreciative audience. The fact that we had such great singers resulted in around 900 tickets being sold, which was up on last year's sales. The main attraction, Amelia Farrugia, wooed everybody, as she is one of Australia's top sopranos. So we were very lucky that she agreed to sing in the Arboretum. Baritone David Thelander, Mezzo, Jacqueline Dark and Tenor David Kidd rounded off a well presented programme. Many of the audience were enthralled with the Pianist, Tamara Anna Cislowska, as well as with the Central Coast Conservatorium String Orchestra. These young musicians from the orchestra are residents of the Central Coast and this event gives them the opportunity to perform with top artists. Thanks to our ticket sellers Peter and Jayne Mote and John and Susan Garwood. Special thanks to Vicki and Maggie who brought in many sponsors and advertisers. Many thanks also to Don Tee and his team arranged the parking and to all those Rotarians and partners who assisted in making this fund raiser the success it was. We must not forget the non-Rotarians, Ian Butler who does our website, Justin Archer who is our graphic artist and his wife Michaele our music director. Without these three people, the opera would not be the success that it has become. The gross income was $48,642.00 and the expenses $20,170.00 giving the Club a profit of $28,472.00. This amount was distributed amongst organisations that transport seniors and the needy, as well as Umina Surf Life Saving and Rotary charities. John Greenway. PP. PHF. |
